Beatroute presents: Data Romance w/ Evy Jane & Olav (DJ Set) – February 28, 2012 @ The Media Club
When our good friends in Data Romance asked us to help them celebrate the release of their new album “Other” (which is out February 19) we got pretty excited. When they mentioned that Evy Jane would be joining them, we knew we had the makings of a special night. Join us for a night of candles, wine and beautifully haunting music that will be unlike anything we’ll come across for quite some time.
About Data Romance:
Ajay Bhattacharyya and Amy Kirkpatrick first came together in their hometown of Victoria on Canada’s Vancouver Island. Kirkpatrick had moved to Vancouver proper, where she started using her training to do lights for the city’s biggest clubs. Bhattacharyya, meanwhile, had come to the city to study sound design for film.
From the circuit-bending tonalities mirroring Nine Inch Nails to the feminine aspect evoking the mystical eroticism of Lykke Li, The Data Romance E.P. provided the first taster of what to expect from the band’s full-length album, due out February 19, 2013.
About Evy Jane:
Evy Jane is the experimental R&B project of Vancouver-based musicians Evelyn Mason and Jeremiah Klein. Drawing from UK bass, gospel, and noise, the partnership yields beat-smart, hyper-textural pop that imparts a sense of fey elegance onto sub-bass juvenile delinquency.
Both Mason and Klein have been involved in the West Coast’s DJ/rave culture for years, each having performed at various festivals, and with Klein having been part of organizing some of Vancouver’s most memorable renegade dance parties.
Cycling through obsessions, but forever attached to pop hooks, Mason’s cindery voice is her primary instrument. Armed with a slew of synths, strings, and analogue pedals, the two have been writing and producing music since 2010.
